VACANCY: Biodiversity Supervisor
Location: Wesley WEF, Eastern Cape, 5612
Job Description:
The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct operational bird and bat mortality monitoring at the specified wind facility. This contract is for 1 year with a possibility of extension.
Key tasks include:

Conducting bird and bat mortality monitoring, searcher efficiency trials, and carcass persistence trials.
-
Adhering to standardized protocols and maintaining detailed datasheets and observations.
-
Working as part of a small field crew to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience:
-
Senior Certificate (or NQF equivalent); higher education is preferred.
-
Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking); Afrikaans or other languages are advantageous.
-
Valid Driver’s License.
-
Basic knowledge of operating a camera and GPS.
-
Mental and physical fitness, with the ability to walk long distances in rough terrain and all-weather conditions.
-
Strong work ethic and honesty are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
Daily:
-
Conduct searches in designated areas under turbines and powerlines for dead or injured birds and bats.
-
Clocking of staff and conducting daily HSE meetings.
-
Planning daily tasks and conducting PPE inspections.
-
Performing risk assessments and toolbox talks.
-
Reviewing baseline risk assessments.
-
Ensuring daily targets are met.
-
Implementing the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS).
Weekly:
-
Ensuring weekly targets are achieved.
-
Submitting weekly reports and checking GPS tracks.
-
Monitoring property to prevent damages.
-
Uploading weekly data and maintaining Health and Safety files.
Monthly:
-
Attending monthly SHEQ meetings.
-
Conducting monthly searcher efficiency trials
