VACANCY: Biodiversity Monitor

The Lady Birds are looking to expand the team with two Biodiversity Monitors and is thus inviting fitting candidates to apply.

 

Job Description: The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct Shutdown on Demand (SDoD) and operational bird and bat monitoring at the specified wind facility.

 

Key tasks include:
•Conducting bird and bat monitoring, carcass searches, searcher efficiency trials, and carcass persistence trials.
•Adhering to standardized protocols and maintaining detailed datasheets and observations.
•Working as part of a small field crew to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.

 

Qualifications & Experience:
•Senior Certificate (or NQF equivalent); higher education is preferred.
•Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking); Afrikaans or other languages are advantageous.
•Basic knowledge of operating a camera and GPS.
•Mental and physical fitness, with the ability to walk long distances in rough terrain and all weather conditions.
•Strong work ethic and honesty are essential.

•Valid Driver’s License.
•Computer literacy (MS Excel & Word).


Key Responsibilities:
•Conduct searches in designated areas under turbines and powerlines for dead or injured birds and bats.
•Monitor birds daily as part of the Shutdown on Demand (SDoD) program, including weekends and public holidays.
